Going From Being In Front of the Camera to Behind The Scenes

I've spent a lot of time working in front of the camera, having been a model since age 18, but working behind the scenes is just as fun, and can be a great career path to move into from modelling.

About two years ago I started working for Cosmopolitan Models, best known for their popular modelling competitions, Miss World Australia and Top Model Worldwide Australia. I had a lot of knowledge of the industry already, but from the complete opposite perspective! I have worked as a model and dancer since age 18, and prior to that trained in dance since I was only 4, so it was safe to say I knew what it was like to be the one on the stage or in front of the camera. Being behind the scenes is a completely different experience though, but still a lot of fun, and a great way to use all that knowledge to become a great director. I studied a Bachelor of Marketing and Events, and to be honest, the reason I got into that course in the first place was because one day I took a step back and thought, hey, I love all of these jobs that I'm doing, how can I do this forever, how can I be the one who organises it all? A few years on and a few different jobs later, and I found myself working for Cosmo - a job that combines all of my skills and passions from everything that I've worked on throughout my life. I think the best part about this job for me is that it not only takes what I'm passionate about from a work perspective, but it combines things that have been hobbies and interests of mine forever. Once you find yourself a job that you can do everything you love all in one, while getting paid for it, you've hit the jackpot!

The Lycon Cosmetics promo shoot was a fun project that I worked on recently alongside a few of my colleagues and best friends (yep, I'm lucky that because my job comes from my hobby, it also means a lot of my co-workers are my best friends!) Rachel Canale Photography and Front Row Entertainment. We filmed a fun little behind the scenes video so that you can get a glimpse into what it's like to be behind the scenes at a shoot...watch the video above! For this shoot, I was responsible for everything from understanding the client's brief, booking the photographer, casting the models, styling, and then directing the shoot on the day. All of those things are literally the next best thing from being in front of the camera yourself, in fact, sometimes I even stop and think that what I'm doing now is more rewarding because you get to watch everything that you spent hours planning come to life, and how happy the clients are at the end.

I encourage anyone out there who is unsure about what path to take, firstly think about what you love to do, and secondly think "how can I do that everyday". I love to chat about these things, and give advice (as best as I know how anyway), so if ever you're feeling up for it, hit me up!
